In our day-to-day private life we are already aware of the small steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint: wear an extra sweater in winter, separate our waste, recycle our used products, not using a car if it isn’t strictly necessary, etc.
In software development we can take similar small steps to create a better environment. In my talk I will first raise awareness: what is the size of the carbon footprint in software development, what’s the impact now and in the future, how can we measure that and make it visible?
As a test consultant I am aware that not only the functional aspects of an application are subjects that are important and must be tested, but also a set of non-functionals. In my talk I want to argue that it is environmentally necessary to take the carbon footprint creation into account as a non-functional requirement when performing a product risk analysis.
Furthermore I will present useful tools that a software tester can use to indicate the carbon footprint that is created by IT, and I will offer simple but useful tips to help reduce the carbon footprint when creating software solutions.

10 steps towards more feminist leadership
Being a feminist leader means believing everyone deserves equal and equitable treatment and opportunity regardless of gender, sexuality, sex, race, religion, or disability. It does not require taking a leading role within your company - there are many situations where you can lead without the authority of a certain role. Unfortunately, there are not many guidelines on how to act as a feminist leader. This talk is for everyone who would like to get a new perspective on leadership.
Change often results in uncertainties that can be met in a variety of ways. Regardless of which way you choose, it does not only affect the way we are working together but also how we lead.
Agile leadership already includes feedback loops, experiments, and institutional checkpoints for communication. Feminist leadership additionally puts a strong emphasis on making sure everyone gets heard and different perspectives are getting considered. Therefore, this approach is especially relevant for people in Testing. Not only are testers often the only person from a marginalized group in a team but also the way their profession looks at the product varies from those of developers.
Based on my personal journey toward becoming a feminist leader, I will share 10 steps to help others on their way to feminist leadership.

IoT Ecosystem - the Good, the Bad, The Ugly
We all have seen IoT as a technology which is growing even beyond the connectivity of devices to the internet. Everything can be connected now. From the smart watch on my hand to the consumer machines in the kitchen, IoT is everywhere. Prefix the name with “Smart” and we talk about transformation from a device to a “Connected” device. Now the IoT platform has got mechanical components into its ecosystem. The engine in my car can collect and send important data to servers in the cloud. The popularity of Google Home and Amazon Echo has shown how deep IoT has entered inside our lives. This is the GOOD part of IoT.
As the importance of any new technology grows, it is imperative to weigh the benefits as well as the risks of using it. Growing popularity has also caused lots of serious security loopholes and that’s where the BAD and UGLY parts show up.
In my talk, I will share my views on how to get the best of GOOD IoT while making sure the BAD and UGLY sides remain in check and controlled. The talk will have some testing techniques to give a fair idea to the testers about how to begin IoT testing and what are the best practices.

Performance Testing 101
In this workshop, you will understand what performance testing is and why you need to test for performance. You will also understand the difference between front-end and back-end performance testing and know the different metrics that are important when doing these two areas of performance testing. Finally, you will learn what testing tools you can use to measure the performance of an example website. This workshop will have a hands-on activity where we will run front-end performance checks as well as back-end performance checks on a sample website and give you the knowledge on how to analyse the results.

Workshop: Behavioral Testing
The biggest problem in behavioral driven development is the semantic barriers and the missing value ranges and scopes in the requirements will bring us many mistakes in the future. To solve this, we should create each of the behavior streams by dividing them into a feature file and make sure that the scenarios are developed to include these streams. We need to use simple language for breaking the semantic barriers. Definitions should be simple, clear and user-friendly. It is important to ensure that feature definitions are helping general usage. Other test engineers can use them in their own scenarios. We will explain what we should pay attention to the 3A rule (Arrange, Act, Assert) and definition.

We can put more than one assertion in the definitions used when describing the flow, but it is recommended not to take more than one action. Combining RestAssured framework with cucumber framework for Rest APIs makes our job much easier. We will see these examples on a sample project with a free api service.

About the Speaker
Rik Marselis is principal quality consultant at Sogeti in the Netherlands. He is a highly regarded presenter, trainer, author, consultant and coach who supported many organizations and people in improving their quality engineering & testing practice by providing useful tools & checklists, practical support and having in-depth discussions. His presentations are always appreciated for their liveliness, his ability to keep the talks serious but light, and his use of practical examples with humorous comparisons. Rik is an accredited trainer for TMAP, ISTQB and TPI certification training courses, but also, he has created and delivered many bespoke workshops and training courses. For example, on quality engineering for Intelligent Machines and DevOps. He is the chairman of the TMAP special interest group. Rik is a fellow of Sogeti’s R&D network SogetiLabs. These R&D activities result in presentations, books, white-papers, articles, podcasts and blogs about IT in general and quality engineering & testing in particular. He is a co-author of the TMAP book “Quality for DevOps teams” and contributor to the www.TMAP.net body of knowledge for quality engineering & testing. In 2022 Rik received the ISTQB Software Testing Excellence Award and the EuroSTAR Best Tutorial Award.

Create your own quality engineering strategy
Most testers know (and use) a test strategy. In today’s world of high-performance IT delivery, that is not enough. Introducing: The Quality Engineering Strategy.
The goal of such strategy is to describe the allocation of quality measures to IT delivery items (e.g., user stories, features etc.), to balance the investment in quality engineering activities and to make an optimal distribution of effort over fundamental DevOps activities and Test Varieties. The quality risk class is used to assign the intensity of the quality measures that must be applied. The Quality Engineering Strategy uses 4 groups of quality measures: Build quality in (also known as preventive), Demonstrate quality statically (also known as detective and static testing), Demonstrate quality dynamically (also known as detective and dynamic testing) and Improve quality (also known as corrective).
In this workshop we will start with analysis of quality risks, then we will dive into quality measures and finally you will assign quality measures with the right intensity to your fundamental DevOps activities and test varieties.
If some words still sound unfamiliar, no worries, it will become clear during the workshop.
This workshop is based on the latest TMAP book “Quality for DevOps teams”. We will use the Excel-template from the body of knowledge website www.TMAP.net.

About the Speaker
Abdurrahman AKIN is since 2009 in the world of software testing and has experience in software engineer, software test engineer, project manager, scrum master and test manager roles. Worked for different companies in the Netherlands and Turkey. In the Netherlands he worked for the University of Amsterdam, Isiz Software and Bol.com. After accepting the offer from Kuveyt Türk Participation Bank he moved to Turkey, started there as a software test engineer and later continued as a test manager. Here he also successfully finished an international ITEA Project named Testomat as the project manager and country cordinator of Turkey. During this project he published papers together with other project participants and presented them in different conferences in different countries. He gave seminars and certificate programs about software testing at different universities. Since April 2022 he works for Cisco remotely. After finishing his comuter science bachelor in the Netherlands he continued for his certification. Earned the following certificates: ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL), ISTQB® Advanced Level Test Analyst (CTAL-TA), ISTQB® Advanced Level Test Manager (CTAL-TM), ISTQB® Advanced Level Technical Test Analyst (CTAL-TTA), ISTQB® Certified Tester Full Advanced Level, Professional Scrum Master (PSM) and Project Management Professional (PMP)®.
